Bergies goes Farm to Fork

By September 19, 2017Uncategorized

Great News, Bergies is officially a partner in the Farm to Fork program! You say what the heck is Farm to Fork? Well let me tell you. The program was started in 1999 by Bon Appetit Management Company. Bon Appetit is a nationwide food service company that locally runs the cafes at Intel and the Cafe Allegro in the Musical Instrument Museum. Farm to Fork is a groundbreaking initiative requiring their chefs to buy 20% of their ingredients from small local farmers, ranchers, and food producers. Cafe Allegro is actually closer to 80% local producers.
Partners must meet a list of criteria and submit to corprate for approval. Items like certified organic, fair-trade, shade grown, and recall programs are a few of the enrollment guidelines. The business must be locally owned and operated.
Bergies Coffee Roast House was asked to enroll by the executive chef of the Musical Instrument Museum, Chris Lenza. Chris loves fresh roasted coffee and happens to be a Bergies fan. Thanks Chris for helping us through the process. We are proud to be a part of such a quality program.
